Plotting a Reason

Earlier this week, the whole of Phase 3 set about exploring a series of mathematical images, with no knowledge of the focus. As the lesson progressed, more and more maths language was revealed, as each new image was provided – eventually the focus became clearer: coordinates. Along the way, though, much reasoning was undertaken – What was it that they could see in each new image? What did they know already?

They could see a lot and knew a great deal, however, as always the chance was taken to deal with misconceptions and secure a logical understanding of coordinates. Finally, we agreed a key list of language from their discussion about the images. You can see this below, along with a phrase we all secured in our minds – Can you see it?
