We are continuing to look at addition and subtraction this week. Reception children are looking at grouping objects together and counting them altogether to find the total amount. Year One pupils are looking at writing number sentences for their equations.
A vital part of our learning is discussing our findings and explaining what we have found, how and why we think it might be an answer and even proving our findings to a grown up or peer.
Take a look at this picture below and ask your child – ‘What can you see in the picture?’ Encourage your child to say ‘In this picture I can see…’ Ask them ‘How many people are there altogether?’ ‘How many cars can you find?’ (will they answer ‘there are zero cars?’) ‘How many yellow flowers are there altogether?’ ‘How many people are sitting and how many are standing?’
