Friday’s Maths learning.

Happy Friday, Phase One! I hope you’re all well and ready to complete some maths learning at home – Do not forget to upload any photos of your work or additional learning onto tapestry.

We also like to see and hear what you have been up during the half terms – feel free to upload those too.

This week, Reception children have been focusing on sequencing and ordering along with exploring time. We have sung nursery rhymes and sequenced them by using the language of ‘first, next, then, after and last.’ Try and make a sandwich of your choosing (with your grown up of course!) and see if you can explain which order you completed the task – what did you do first? What did you do next? What did you use? This is an excellent opportunity to work on a variety of skills – cutting, spreading, naming foods, communicating, following instructions and of course the reward of eating something you have made is always fun.

Here the sandwich sequencing has been muddled up, can you remember the correct order when you made your sandwich?

This week we also explored various ways to measure time and guessed if certain activities would take you longer or shorter than a minute to complete. What can you do at home that takes longer or shorter than a minute? You could record your findings by drawing, writing them down or you can take a photo, along with your comments?

Every day, we practice remembering the days of the week and reciting them in the correct order. We have tried really hard to also speak in full sentences to explain ‘today is Friday, yesterday was Thursday and tomorrow will be Saturday.’

See if you can continue with this learning during the half term by talking about your days and activities, also try asking what day it was yesterday or asking your child to recall what they have done.

Try and practice this together.

Year Ones have been working on their addition and subtracting skills along with working out the differences which could be more/less or fewer.

Take a look below and see if you can work out these equations by applying your number bond knowledge-these are 2 numbers that make a pair to make an equation – it could equal to 10/20/30 etc.

Don’t forget all of the different strategies you can use – using cubes/coins/legos/ drawing pairs to match /a number line- can you think of any more strategies you can use?

If Year Ones would like a super tricky challenge take a look below and see if you can complete the tasks and then explain how you worked out the answers.

Remembering to use your reasoning skills and tell your grown ups, how do you know the answer, can you explain what you did?

Have a wonderful half term – look forward to seeing you all back on Tuesday 1st March.
