This week saw the whole of Phase 3 explore the mathematical concepts of area and perimeter – see our earlier blogs too (click the links below). Friday’s lesson involved some deeper reasoning – Can you use your problem solving skills to find a solution to the question shown below? This was just one of the questions the classes undertook.
Other area and perimeter blogs: Click here and here.

Some of us also took to the playground for a practical maths lesson, where we estimated and measured the perimeter of the netball court in strides, and tried to reason why some sections of the netball court have the same perimeter as others.

After a full week at school, Earth are well ahead – Play, has though, been somewhat limited, so there is everything to play for. Get playing, ahead of the close of play on Sunday!

Today, Phase 3 tested their practical maths skills, measuring the perimeter and area of given 2-D shapes. They estimated the measurements first and then set about measuring the shapes, with the new tape measures – calculating lengths and area accordingly: with great success! Everyone, felt more confident by the end of the lesson. Well done everyone!
During the remainder of this week, we will explore the topic further, applying new knowledge to more calculations (even compound shapes and triangles) and solving problems too – using our ever improving reasoning skills.

If you missed your chance to complete the fractions Kahoot, here it is again – Just click on the link and have a pen and paper ready to work out your answers.
Don’t forget to challenge your family to the Kahoot, as well – see who does better.

In our final remote learning week, it was Earth house who were victorious in the latest battle of Times Table Rockstars – Now there is a new battle, running from today, until 8pm on Sunday the 14th of March – Who will win? You decide! Get playing now.
If you have lost your username and password, then contact Mrs. Peyyeti (ppeyyeti@st-pauls.gloucs.sch.uk), or your class teacher.

The battle seemed tame this time – with Earth house the clear winners in this week’s battle – Very well done!

It was also great to see so many of you taking part, but it clear to see why Earth won in the end – simply more pupils taking part. Water house, will you get your revenge next week?
