During Maths this week reception children will continue to explore sequencing and measuring time. We will be looking at sequencing nursery rhymes such as; Hickory Dickory Dock, Humpty Dumpty and many more. Make sure you practice singing or listening to these at home, ask your child what happens first, then, next and last. Can they retell it in the correct order? Challenge them by asking what came before or after a specific part?
We will also be identifying what we can use to measure various times such as, seconds, minutes, days of the week and years. Ask your child if they can explain what they can use to measure the minutes or months?
We will be looking at our Hickory Dickory big picture, this is where children are invited to come up the front of the class and share ‘what they can see’. We speak in full sentences using our star maths words – look at the star words we will be using this week. Ask your child to explain each star word and even ask them to use it in a sentence.

Year One’s continue to learn about addition and subtraction and the various strategies they can use in order to find the difference.
Take a look at the picture below and see if your child can work out the answer. Ask them how did they work out their answer, can they explain and prove it to you?

Watch this video all about ‘the differences’ – there is a catchy song which may help you. To challenge yourself, think of all the ways you can make the difference by using any two sets of numbers (grown ups play along, don’t forget Maths is always fun when there’s more than one!) As always, any additional learning can be shared on Tapestry, golden tickets are awarded for your child’s hard efforts to continue their learning from home.
