We have been learning about counting forwards and backwards from 10. This has included using number lines and even creating a number line as a class.

We worked together to work out which ones came before and after each number, checking our number line as a class and using key star words to explain our answers.

‘The number fourteen comes before number fifteen. I know this because 14 is one less than 15.’ ARL

‘The zero must be first as it goes before number one.’ DO

‘Twenty go after nineteen as it is one more than.’ VS

We also looked at making a ten frame as a class by standing in groups of ten in order to count on. Try this at home together as some children are still counting on from zero. We are starting to become secure with our number bonds to 5 and 10. This will be useful when we move onto addition and subtraction within twenty. Great work, Year 1!
