Reception pupils will be looking at number patterns within 20. The star words we will be using are:

Group 4 Algorithms

Computing is a subject that is changing quickly as new technologies develop. However, the under lying principles do not change. One of these is the use of algorithms.

Initially, group 4 had no idea as to what an algorithm is but quickly realised it is an instruction.

Technically, it is a set of instructions for solving a problem or accomplishing a task. We use them in our everyday life from following a recipe to make a cake to traffic lights. Algorithms are everywhere!

In groups, the children created their own map. It had to have a start and an end which the groups then made an algorithm for in order to move around the map. Creating the maps was great fun and having squares on the paper made it easier to create the algorithm. When writing the algorithm we realised that the maths vocabulary came in handy – clockwise, anti-clockwise, left, right, 90 degree turn.

Maths Match Champions

Today saw the Phase 3 pupils once again enjoying a Maths Match challenge, with their peers – between teams and between Water and Earth pupils.

Teamwork was key, as was the ability to reason, through the problem presented – something year six were all to familiar with, following their SATS journey this week.

Water were victorious, with the highest individual team score, for the ‘Amazing Additions.’ Earth though had the highest average team score, by 1 point. So well done to everyone!
