Adding three 1-digit numbers
Today, Group 2 were adding three 1-digit numbers together. They used their number bonds to ten as a strategy to reach the final answer. Some pupils also found cubes a useful tool ton support their learning. This was our last lesson in our addition and subtraction unit and Group 2, where worked really hard. Well done Group 2! 🙂

Money, money, money!
During our maths lessons this week, Reception pupils’ will be exploring coins and their values. We will start by investigating 1 pence coins and using them during our role play shops in and outside of the classroom.
Take a look at the song below and see if your child can recognise any coins and their value? What do they notice? Are all the coins the same? Are their any pictures or patterns on them? Are they all the same size and colour?
Does your child have a piggy bank at home? Have they ever held real money before? How did it feel? If you have any pennies at home maybe try ordering them by size or value, maybe you could find some coins which have the same value? How many 1 pence coins would you need to be equal to 5p or 10p coins?
A fun activity to support with their learning, would be to play shops. You can take turns acting as the customer and shop keeper to buy things items, such as; teddies, cars, crayons, tins of food. You could even make shopping lists or price tags, or you could venture out together to the real shops. Maybe your child could help with reading or ticking off items from your shopping list, or look at the price labels to recognise numerals, or even hand over money to the cashier and collect some change.
Have fun together and don’t forget to take pictures and add onto Tapestry.
