Art
Research an artist of your choice. Explore their artwork and decide which one is your favourite. Why is that particular piece of art your favourite? Now try recreating the piece you like most. What techniques do you think the artist had to use to achieve the piece?
Science
Properties of materials is our new unit of work in Westgate Phase. Create a table of different materials around your home. What is made of plastic? What do you have which is made from wood or metal? Why are these objects made from these materials? What are their properties that makes them good for their uses?
Our School Value This Term – Dignity
Our Value this term is Dignity. “Dignity means being respected for who you are, how you behave and what you believe in.” Talk with members of your family about how you gain dignity from others? What things can you do to ensure you gain dignity?

Christmas Fair

As part of our enterprise learning from Spring term last year, the children have continued this by creating items to sell at our Christmas fair. We had a budget of £40 and we made snowmen on a stick which we sold for 50p each. We made over 200 snowmen and decided to make some vegan to cater for all customers. One of our classmates also made snowmen hamma bead decorations to sell on the day. We had a great evening and made a total of £30 profit which is amazing! Well done Westgate Water!
Christmas Extravaganza Enterprise!
Next week we have our Christmas Extravaganza! You are welcome to join us in the hall to explore the stalls, cakes, tea, santa’s grotto and much more!
In preparation for this, the children have taken part in an enterprise. We were set a budget to buy resources and then make something to be sold at the fayre. The children have worked so hard creating the products and signs to tell people what we have for sale.

Next week we will look at the money we have made and use subtraction to find out our profit.
Please come and support us in raising the most money through our sales! We look forward to seeing you at such an exciting event 🙂
Home Learning Wednesday 25th October
For this week’s learning, we will be recapping some of our learning this term as well as looking towards to our new learning after half term ‘Who are we?’
Please create a timeline of your life, start with date of birth and maybe some important milestones, maybe when you began to walk, talk, first birthday, holiday, celebrations, first day if nursery or school, finishing your timeline up until today. It can include photos and pictures. Feel free to bring it in to school or take photos and upload onto Class Dojo.

As it is Half term, feel free to complete our half term challenge – select as many or as little of the challenges to finish. Bring in evidence or take photos and share with your child’s Key Worker.

Next, do not forget to read your school books and possibly more! Read and share books from home together or visit the local library to borrow free books.
Have a happy and safe half term break, we look forward to seeing you all back on Monday 6th November.
Wednesday Home Learning – 05/07/23
Home Learning – Wednesday 5th July 2023
This Wednesday afternoon we would like you to complete some of the following tasks.
If you complete a task, you should upload it to your portfolio on your dojo account or you can bring in anything completed on paper into school tomorrow.
Reading:
Can I remind parents and children that we expect three signatures a week from parents in your child’s reading record to show that children have read at home either to a parent, a sibling or independently. You can still add your read for good books to track my read using the website below:
https://trackmyread.org/school/st-pauls-cofe-primary-school-912126
Literacy:
Create two characters, one from a modern society and one from the past or future. You should make sure your characters are very different so that when they meet through a portal they seem alien to one another. Think about what they would say to each other. How would they introduce themselves, what interesting fact would they share and how would they feel? Draw the characters and describe them using adjectives. Then, create the dialogue these characters would have between each other. Don’t forget your inverted commas and correct punctuation. Remember to use interesting speech words (not just said)!
Art:
Research artist Emma Howell (who is actually from Gloucester). I have shared some of her art on this post to inspire you.
Can you create a colouring or painting like Emma? You could use materials or technology to create the artwork too. Be creative!

Jigsaw
It’s almost time for us to move on to new schools (year 6) and new classes (year 5). Look back at the year you have had and think about the following questions:
What are you most proud of from this year?
What have you learnt that has helped you this year?
What are you looking forward to next year?
What do you want to achieve next year?
You could present this as a drawing or just answer the questions in sentences.
Science
Light… where does it come from? When was electricity invented and who invented the lightbulb? Research into electricity and the lightbulb. You could create a poster, leaflet or fact file about electricity or the lightbulb.
Music:
Year 6, don’t forget to practise the songs for the leaver’s service:
Thank you for your cooperation,

Wednesday Home Learning – 28.06
Home Learning – Wednesday 28th June 2023
This Wednesday afternoon we would like you to complete some of the following tasks.
If you complete a task, you should upload it to your portfolio on your dojo account or you can bring in anything completed on paper into school tomorrow.
Reading:
Can I remind parents and children that we expect three signatures a week from parents in your child’s reading record to show that children have read at home either to a parent, a sibling or independently.
Literacy:
This week we have started exploring portal narratives. Portal narratives often start with someone doing their usual routine or something that seems ‘normal.’ They then get sucked into a portal which takes them to another dimension, time in history or into the future. If you could choose a portal to go through, where would you end up? What would it be like? Draw a picture and annotate using adjectives to describe where you would go if you could go through a portal.
Computing:
Using stop-start animation, create an animation of a character of your choice going through a portal into a new dimension. You could draw your characters and settings or use any toys or figures you already have at home.
Maths:
Please use TTRS to practice your times tables: https://www.ttrockstars.com/login

Jigsaw
We have been looking at self-esteem in Jigsaw and how we see ourselves. Your task this week is to write 5 things you like about yourself. Then, ask someone in your family to write 5 things they like about you. You can then write 5 things you like about someone in your family or someone at school. Make sure you share these with me.
Science
Over the last few weeks we have been exploring different properties of materials, magnetism, floating and sinking and many other properties. Experiment with different objects in your house (please ask an adult before you choose your objects), thinking about the following things:
What is the mass of the object?
Does it float or sink?
Is it magnetic?
How does the object feel?
What does it look like?
Does it absorb water?
Don’t’ forget to show me your work on Dojo or bring it into school!

What is Hope?
For the next four weeks we will be learning about hope and what that looks like to us personally and to others within different religions. Create a mind map, poster, diary entry or a drawing to represent the different scenarios below.
- A time when you were hopeful
- A time when somebody told you they were hopeful
- What are you hopeful for in the future
- Find out what a family member hopes for and why
- Why is hope important?
