Group 2 Maths

Today we had a tricky Maths lesson. We were looking at different assessment style questions all to do with fractions. We worked with our partner to first read the question and then work out what the question was asking. We remembered that when we have to solve a fraction of amount (a number) we should always draw a bar model!

Angles and Shape

This week, Group 3 learn some new words and definitions in relation to shape and angles.

We learnt that a right angles is were a horizontal and vertical line meet, an acute angles is cute and smaller than a right angle and an obtuse is greater than a right angle. The children can confidently demonstrate all angles using their arms and love playing the angle game at the beginning of each lesson. The game will continue over the next 3 weeks, with new vocab being added.

Using our trusted right angle finders and angle makes, the children are able to identify, create and describe angles of all sizes.

P.E.

This week, make sure you spend some time doing a physical activity with a family member or on your own. This could be a Joe Wicks P.E lesson or Cosmic Yoga on Youtube or going for a walk, out on your bike or going to the park with a family member.

The King’s Coronation

For the next two weeks we will be learning about the monarchy and in particular King Charles III as we celebrate his official coronation on Saturday 6th May. Below are a range of different activities for you to have a go at based on the Royal family.

  1. Choose a member of the royal family and sketch a portrait of them.
  2. Draw the family tree of the royal family starting with the late Queen Elizabeth II
  3. Create a fact file on a member of the royal family of your choice.
  4. Imagine you’re a king or queen, design your own castle. How many rooms would you have? What would be in each room.
  5. Design a coronation outfit for a guest to King Charles III’s coronation.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Miss Taylor and Miss Osmond

Perimeter

Today, Group 3 continued their learning of calculating perimeters of a shape in mixed units. The children showcased their amazing team work and methodical thinking to work out a range of perimeters in m and cm. The children worked with big numbers today and all rose to the challenge.

Squirrels Maths

Numbers to 100 can be a little bit tricky. 17 and 70 can seem very similar. We have been looking closely at how the two digit numbers are made up. There has been lots of talking about tens and ones (units). If a number is made up of seven tens then we know it is seventy. Whereas, is it has one ten and seven ones then it is seventeen. The more we practised, the easier it has become.

In small teams, we have been investigating how to partition these two digit numbers into their tens and ones.
We began by choosing three number cards and ordering them from smallest to biggest.
After that, we wrote the number as tens and ones before drawing it.

Measuring in mixed units

Over the last 2 weeks, Group 3 have been learning how to measure, using a rule, in a range of measurements. Today the children used their decision making and decide whether they needed to measure an item in m and cm or cm and mm, depending on the size of the object. The children had to record their measurements in mixed units and compare them, deciding which item was larger or smaller.
