Weighing in g and kg

Today, group 3 compared classroom items to weights so that they could estimate the mass of an object. The children used balance scales and weighing scaledsto compare their estimations to the actual mass of the object. The children were then asked to calculate the difference between their estimation and the actual mass, in order to work out how accurate their estimations were.

Where can we find hope?

For the next four weeks we will be learning about hope and what that looks like to us personally and to others within different religions. If someone is feeling down or upset, how can they become hopeful? Where might they find hope? Talk to your family members about where they find hope when things seem tough? How can we stay hopeful for the future when things seem impossible? Write down a few words or create a poster about how we can find hope.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Miss Taylor and Miss Osmond

2d Geo shapes

Today, year 3 looked to describe, create and draw 2d shapes. We played describe and guess the 2d shapes, making sure were describing the shapes using our key vocabulary learnt over the unit:

  • right angles
  • obtuse angles
  • acute angles
  • perpendicular lines
  • parallel lines
  • vertices

The children displayed their vast knowledge of shapes and angles through out the lesson, making Miss Clarke having to think really hard of the shapes the children were describing. To help us draw, we used the Geo boards to create our shapes.

To compare and classify 2-D shapes

Group 4 were used their previous learning to classify and group 2D shapes. We used the words regular, irregular, vertices, sides, angles, obtuse, acute, right angles to identify different 2D shapes based on their properties. The pupils asked questions such as “does your shape have a right angle?” “is your shape regular or irregular?” “Does your shape have more than one obtuse angle?” to help them identify the shape.
