This Wednesday afternoon we would like you to complete some of the following tasks.
If you complete a task, you should upload it to your portfolio on your dojo account or you can bring in anything completed on paper into school tomorrow.
Reading:
Can I remind parents and children that we expect three signatures a week from parents in your child’s reading record to show that children have read at home either to a parent, a sibling or independently.
On Monday 12th June we launched ‘Read for Good’ on Track My Read. We will be aiming to read 1,000,000 minutes as a school before the end of term. The link below will take you to the login page. Please have a go at adding a book you have read to the Track My Read once you have your login and password: https://trackmyread.org/school/st-pauls-cofe-primary-school-912126
Literacy:
This week we will be completing our formal letters and will begin looking at Tanka poems. A tanka poem is an ancient Japanese form of poetry that is categorised by the number of syllables in each line, totaling 31 syllables. These poems traditionally are about seasons, nature, desires, or feelings, and often include many different types of literary devices, such as personification, metaphors, and similes. Tankas typically present a whole story or picture within the 31 syllables.
We would like you to learn the Tanka below ready for a class poetry slam.
A pool of sunlight
Bathes the stormy evening bay.
A lonely heron
Stands still, a cunning statue,
Waiting for unwary fish.
You could also have a go at writing your own Tanka poem. Or you could rewrite this poem and add images to reflect what the poem is about.
Computing:
This week we would like the children to think about how the things they access on the internet can support but also hinder their well-being and mental health. We often search symptoms of illnesses or concerns online, but how do we know the advice we read is accurate. With this in mind we would like the children to create a piece where they will give advice to other children in their age group around accessing information online to aid health and well-being. Create a mind map, poster or leaflet which should include top tips of how you can use the internet to access trusted sites to support you and include how talking to a professional is advised.
Create a film or animation: The film can be animation or live action. Create a ‘do’s/don’ts’ information film. The films should include top tips of how you can use the internet to access trusted sites to support you and include how talking to a professional is advised.
Something else: Encourage learners to think of other ways to convey information e.g. infographics, memes, audio recordings like songs or radio adverts, displaying tips through gaming content like a Minecraft world or Roblox game! Creativity is key!
