Today, the children practiced reading the time, both digitally and in analogue form. They applied this skill to todays learning of working out lengths of time using clocks and timelines.

This week Phase 3 are Data Detectives! We are using clues from line graphs and pie charts to compare and extract data! We have learnt that continuous data which may include time or temperature is displayed on a line graph and discrete data with particular categories like animals or shoe size we need to use a bar chart or pie chart.
Today we recapped our previous unit of fractions. The children were asked to match pictorial representations to its corresponding fraction and the fraction in words

This week, Year 5 have been learning about transformations and coordinates in maths. They have been playing ‘Splat the Snake’ to help them remember how to read coordinates and which coordinate comes first.

They also went online to play Treasure Hunt on Nrich Maths. https://nrich.maths.org/6288
Have a go yourself to see how many attempts you need to find the hidden treasure

This week we have continued learning about percentages. In particular, we have learnt about percentages in context. We have learnt how to find percentage decrease and increase based on items in a shop. This is really helpful for when we are older and need to work out discount on items.
Today have a follow along for your Maths learning – these lessons are recapping concepts we have found tricky in class.

Today in Maths, Miss Taylor’s group looked at how to perfect their percentages.
We recapped how to find simple percentages and answered SATs style questions.
We started looking at discount and what it means to have 20% off an item, for example. We also compared fractions and percentages, finding out whether 25% extra or 1/3 extra was the better deal.
