Comparing decimals

Today in Maths, Group 4 were comparing decimals. We used a number line and our knowledge of place value to compare two decimals using our star words ‘less than, greater than, tens, ones, tenths’. We then used the symbols < > = to present our comparisons.

Ordering Unit Fractions

During todays maths meeting, group 3 recapped unit fractions. The children were tasked to order unit fractions from smallest to largest. With some trial and error, use of manipulatives and pictorial representations, the children were successful in ordering the fractions.

Group 3 Maths

This week, Group 3 have been look at time: reading digital and analogue clocks with numbers or roman numerals and comparing and ordering time. Today, the children looked at different ways to express the morning, afternoon, evening and night, exploring when we might complete certain activities and what order they would happen. The children were encouraged to use full sentences and extend their sentences using because to justify their answers.

24 hour clock. Group 4 Maths

Today in Maths, Group 4 were learning how to tell the time on a 24 hour digital clock. We learnt that is the hour time is greater than 12, then it is the afternoon (pm) and if it is less than 12, it is the morning (am). We discovered that if we add 12 to the time on a 12 hour clock (for example 8:00, then we will find the equivalent 24 hour time, 20:00!
