Today in maths, Year 3 used fraction strips to compare unit fractions.

This week in maths we have been looking at multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100. We used the methods that we learnt at the start of the year in our place value unit to help us understand how to multiply and divide by 10 and 100. We found this very tricky at the start so we used a place value table and counters to help us visually see the problem. This was a great help and now we can do these tricky problems. Well done group 4.

Westgate have been using timetables in French to learn how to ask and answer “Qu’est-ce qui passe à la télévision?” [What’s on television?] They used their new knowledge of telling the time to ask what was on at a specific time.
Having practised orally with their partner, they had a go at writing the answers out using a different timetable. before learning how to say quarter past and quarter to the hour.

Year 6 have continued their understanding of 3D shapes through nets. The children were given a variety of nets of which they had to decide whether it made a cube or not.

Today in Maths, Year 5 learnt how to add and subtract mixed numbers. They worked really well and learnt different strategies to support their learning. Here are some more questions to practice if you would like to challenge yourself!
Home Learning – Wednesday 17th April 2024
This Wednesday afternoon we would like you to complete some of the following tasks.
When you complete a task from the list below, you should upload it to your portfolio on your dojo account or you can bring in anything completed on paper into school tomorrow.

Trust
This term our value is trust. What is trust? How do you gain someone’s trust? What happens if someone breaks their trust? How can we forgive someone who may break our trust? You can discuss these questions with an adult at home, create a poster, leaflet or advert about the importance of trust and being trustworthy.
Managing Information Online

This week in French, Year 3 began by recapping the numbers they learned in the last lesson by doing some simple maths with time information. They gave their answers using French numbers up to 31:
How many days in 2 weeks? (quatorze)
How many minutes in a quarter hour? (quinze)
Then, they learned the days of the week in French. They noticed that, unlike in English, the days of the week in French do not have capital letters.
They used their new knowledge to play games sorting out the order of the days before testing themselves with a tricky worksheet.

Today in Maths, Year 5 were adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators. They learnt that before they did the adding and subtracting, they needed to give the fractions the same denominator. They could do this because the two numbers were multiples of each other.
