Maths Flashback 4

Every maths lesson, Year 5 begin with a ‘flashback 4’ which helps consolidate their previous maths learning. Here is our flashback from today where we practiced adding fractions, finding equivalent fractions and rounding numbers. The pupils were also able to identify the time on an analogue clock and write it in 12 hour time and 24 hour time.

Maths – Angles

Today Year 3 started their work on shape. They learned that angles are formed two lines meet and that angles are also a measure of turn. They made angle makers to identify angles then used them to identify which angles had a greater measure of turn.

Exploring 2D shapes

Today in maths Year 4 have been exploring the properties of different 2D shapes. We have looked at the different number of vertices and side that different shapes have and whether they are regular or irregular. The children then played a game of ‘guess the shape’ where they had to pick a shape whilst their partner had to ask questions like ‘does your shape have more than 4 vertices?’ in order to guess the correct shape. We had a lot of fun playing this game whilst using all of our vocabulary.

Right angles

Yesterday in Year four we started our new unit on shape and symmetry. Yesterday the children looked at how we can tell if angles are bigger or smaller. Today we moved onto looking at right angles. We learnt that a right angle is a 90 degree angle and shapes like squares and rectangles have four right angles. We created a right angle checker to help us investigate a range of different shapes.

Wednesday Home Learning 01.05.24

Maths:
To support your child’s learning please use the following links. Year 6 will bring home an Arithmetic paper every day until their SATs, please complete a test each day to discuss and mark in Maths the following day.
Year 5 are learning about fractions, decimals and percentages, please use the following link to support your learning: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/znjqtfr/articles/zrkw2fr#z26cjfr

Please use TTRS to practice your times tables: https://www.ttrockstars.com/login

Quelle heure est-il?

Westgate began their French lesson by recapping how to tell the time for o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to times.

Once they had practised telling the time, they looked at some school timetables, showing the French words for various school lessons. They used these timetables to learn the prepositions “avant” [before] and “apres” [after].

They practised using this new vocabulary orally with their partner before consolidating their learning by writing them out in complete phrases.
