Home Learning – 22.11.23

This Wednesday afternoon we would like you to complete some of the following tasks.
When you complete a task from the list below, you should upload it to your portfolio on your dojo account or you can bring in anything completed on paper into school tomorrow.

Reading:
Can I remind parents and children that we expect three signatures a week from parents in your child’s reading record to show that children have read at home either to a parent, a sibling or independently.

Handwriting:
Please complete the handwriting sheet you will be given today.

Spelling:
Your child will come home with a spelling sheet. It will have one of the key stage two statutory words and will encourage children to think about the word in lots of different ways. If you aren’t sure how to complete this, please ask.

Maths:
Complete the times table colouring sheet to reveal the hidden picture.

Geography – Location in the Wider World
Ahead of Friday’s lesson, look up the following key words: longitude, latitude, equator, tropic of cancer, tropic of Capricorn, northern hemisphere, southern hemisphere, arctic circle, Antarctic circle and biomes.

Internet Safety – Online Relationships
This week we have been learning about how to make responsible choices online. What should you do if you see something inappropriate or upsetting online? Who should you tell? Discuss online profiles and making responsible choices with someone at home.

Value – Service
This week Miss Taylor’s assembly was about how Jesus washed his disciples feet to show his service to them. How can you show service to your friends and family? You don’t literally have to wash their feet… what else could you do?

Road Safety Week
This week is Road Safety week, create a poster or a leaflet about how to stay safe on the roads. This could be when walking, cycling or in the car with your parents or family members.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Miss Taylor and Miss Southam

Array!

No, I am not confused! It shouldn’t say horary (although it was great fun)! In maths, we have been looking at arrays. I hear you say what is an array? An array is the start of year 2 learning all about times tables.

If you picture some rows and columns. Rows go across and columns go down.

The children then had to count how many rows there are (in this model 3) and how many are in each row (in this model 4). We could then say altogether there are 12 squares.

We then wrote this down as a multiplication 3 x 4 = 12

Together we worked in pairs using some numbers given to us to work out the array they could be.

Some of us were really smart and noticed if we turned the array around the answer didn’t change but the numbers swapped places (commutativity).

4 x 3 = 12 (4 rows each with 3 in it)

Short Division

This week, year six have been practising their short division strategies. Using what they know and adjusting or using the ‘bus stop’ strategy. The children were unsure at the beginning of the week but after lots of practice felt much more confident by the end.

Factors and Prime Numbers

In Maths we have been learning about factors and prime numbers. We know that a factor is A factor isΒ an integer that divides exactly into a whole number without a remainder. For example, 3 is a factor of 12 and 5 is a factor of 10. We have also been looking at prime numbers, identifying that a number is prime if its only two factors are 1 and itself. If a number has more than two factors, it is composite.

Group 2 Maths

We have been learning about measure and using our rulers to measure accurately. Today, we measured various parts of our body and looked at how they are often linked to each other.

Did you know, your arm span is the same as your height? Or that your foot is the same length as your forearm?

We had lots of fun testing these theories and found they were correct! Have a go at home to see if it’s correct for everyone πŸ™‚

Short Multiplication with Decimals

This week Year 6 have been practising using short multiplication with the addition of multiplying decimals by integers. At first, they found it quite difficult to multiply with decimals but with lots of practice, remembering to line up our place value and checking our decimal point is in the right place, the children ended the week feeling positive about short multiplication with decimals.

Maths

This week Group 4 have started a new unit on graphs and data. At times we have struggled with this but we have really upped our skills today learning all about the X and Y axis and how to construct a bar chart ourselves. This unit has seen the children make great progress so far and each child is continuing to push themselves to make their work more challenging. What a great first week group 4!
