Mrs Cook’s Maths Group

Today we are recapping time and understanding how long is 5 and 10 seconds, 1 minute and 1 hour. Do you remember how we measured what we could do in 10 seconds yesterday – write our name, say the alphabet, jumping jacks? Some of these activities we could not do in 10 seconds!!

Watch the clip below and have a go at the quizzes – I wonder how long does it take for you to tidy your room – I think maybe more than a minute?!!

You can use this stopwatch to help you record how long it takes for you to do activities – maybe ask your grown ups or your brothers/sisters to do the same – do they take the same amount of time or are they quicker or slower than you?

Group 2 Maths

Today we consolidated our knowledge of time and measurement. We looked at telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes and then we tried to reason about it.

We had different questions and had to prove whether the children were right or wrong, here is an example of our work and reasoning!

Mrs Chambers’ Learning Group – Maths.

Happy Tuesday, Phase One. I hope you are all well and safe and are enjoying learning from home? You and your grown ups and doing a super job, well done and keep it up!

Following on from yesterday’s love lesson, we have been looking measuring, specifically- capacity, using the language, Full, Empty, Half full, Nearly full and Nearly Empty.

Look at this image, what can you see? Try and match the words to the pictures.

Now, see if you are able to find some containers which you can fill, these maybe be cups with water, rice, pasta or pencils, whatever you can find. Then think about filing them until they’re full, half full, nearly empty and empty. Take a photo and upload onto Tapestry. Here is an example.

Are any of these bottles full or empty? Half full or nearly full?

If you’d like a challenge, take a look at this worksheet and see if you can answer any of these questions.

lastly, enjoy looking at some games about measuring. Good luck and keep up the marvellous work, everybody 😀

Mrs Cook’s Maths Group

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Today we are going to look at challenging you with some measuring questions! Read through the questions with your grown ups and then talk about how you can work out the answer. You do not have to tell me if you have answered them all but maybe you could take photos of your work and upload it onto Tapestry – I love to see what you are able to do at home!

Maths and Mondrian – Art and Maths combined

Piet Mondrian was a Dutch artist who created paintings that described the world around us. Interestingly, his later artworks described the world using coloured rectangles and squares which are also the basis of an interesting mathematical puzzle.

Read this document to help you understand how maths and art can be combined.

Then, either create your own grid based on the rules or print out the Mondrian colouring sheet below

and create your own piece of abstract art which has combined maths and art. Watch the following video to help inspire you.
