This week in Maths Year 4 have worked extremely hard on their arithmetic and reasoning papers. They have worked really hard since we last did these and their hard work has really showed this week. We can’t wait to get back to decimals in our final week of term. Well done Year 4!

Measuring in Maths. Group 1 Eastgate
In class today, Eastgate Group 1 have begun looking at measuring. They have been comparing sizes and using new vocabulary such as ‘taller than’, ‘longer than’ and ‘shorter than’.

Maths – Unequal and equal parts
Today, Group 3 started their work on fractions by identifying equal and unequal parts. They shared cubes into equal and unequal groups then looked at different shapes and identified if they were split equally or unequally.

Reflecting a shape in the x-axis and y-axis
Continuing our learning in maths, Year 5 have been using their knowledge of transformations, reflections and coordinates to reflect shapes in a 4 quadrant grid, using their understanding of the x- and y-axis to support them.

World Book Day
Tomorrow is World Book Day, which you are welcome to come to school dressed as a book character or in your pyjamas. We will focus on a book called Flooded and spend time discussing books we enjoy. You could create a poster about your favourite book or the character you are coming to school as.

Representing tenths
Today in Year 4 we started our new maths unit of decimals. Today we explored tenths and how we can represent these using fractions and dienes. The children used the dienes to help them covert fractions into decimals and decimals into fractions. They did excellent!

Ratio and Proportion
This week, year 6 have started their learning about Ratio and Proportion. The children have explored how it is similar to fractions and how they can use their knowledge of part and whole to work out ratio.

Fantastic Fractions! Maths Group 1
In Maths, the children have been learning about finding half of a shape. They were able to do this with some very tricky shapes! Then they made some cookies out of playdough to share equally with Paddington.

Mock SATs
This week Y6 had a Mock SATs week. This included the Punctuation and Grammar, Spelling, Arithmetic, Reasoning and Reading papers. This experience of practicing the SATs will reduce any anxiety or worries the children have around these tests as they become more familiar with the process and formalities of the week. The children in year six worked extremely hard this week and I am so proud of each and every one of them.
