Maths Group 2

Today, the children were adding two 2-digit numbers. Some children used the dienes to help partition the numbers into tens and one and then added on ones.

The children worked really well today, but we need to keep practising our partitioning. Remember 25 = 20 + 5, for example. Whenever you see a 2-digit number, have a go!

Group One Maths

As we continue to explore addition and subtraction during our maths lessons, we have been exploring creating our own equation stories.

‘If seven teddies had a party but two left there would be five left at the party.’

‘Six doughnuts but I eat Six there would be zero.’ NP

‘I have 10 lollies and I give five away to a friend, I would have five left for me. ‘ NH

We have been working on writing our equations and using the symbols and words – plus, minus, add, subtract, equals, altogether.

We have been trying hard to record our number bond equations to ten. See if you can help with this at home, can you write together? We would enjoy seeing any additional work completed at home, remember to take a photo and send it in, via Class Dojo to your child’s key worker.

Wow! We were feeling proud to proud our equations.

Number bonds to 10.

Home Learning – Wednesday 4th October

Home Learning – Wednesday 4th October

This Wednesday afternoon we would like you to complete some of the following tasks.

If you complete a task, you should upload it to your portfolio on your dojo account or you can bring in anything completed on paper into school tomorrow.

Reading:
Can I remind parents and children that we expect three signatures a week from parents in your child’s reading record to show that children have read at home either to a parent, a sibling or independently.

Spelling:
Your child will come home with a spelling sheet. It will have one of the year 5/6 statutory words and will encourage children to think about the word in lots of different ways.

Maths:
Rounding:

Use the link below to recap rounding: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zh8dmp3

Complete the times table colouring you will be given by your teacher.

Please use TTRS to practice your times tables: https://www.ttrockstars.com/login
You can also use arithmequiz 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 to practice a variety of arithmetic style questions to improve your fluency.

Internet Safety – Online Relationships
Design your own emoji that doesn’t already exist. How will you ensure it’s not misinterpreted and that it gives the meaning you desire. Give an example of how someone would use it in a text or a social media post.

D.T. – Diet, Nutrition and Hygiene.
This week we have looked at different diets and how not everyone needs the same nutrition if they have a different lifestyle or job. Continue this work at home by creating breakfast, lunch, tea, snacks and drinks for either a celebrity or an occupation of your choice.

Value – Generosity
How can someone show generosity without expecting the same in return? Think back to Monday’s assembly and sometimes it’s the act of giving that makes us feel good rather than receiving. Write about a time that you’ve been generous and it made you feel happy.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Miss Taylor and Miss Southam

Maths Learning Group 1

This week we have focused on using addition to write equations. We started by looking at whole and part models and focusing on partition skills. We had to explain our workings to an adults – ‘this part is 7 and this part is 2 the whole equals 9’. We can write the equation to looks like this 7+2=9

Children created their own equation stories, using their addition skills as well as writing number bonds to 5 and 10.

We have not only focused on applying and discussing our maths learning but forming all of our numbers to 10 correctly.

Look how proud we look!

These skills will come in handy as we progress onto subtraction work next week. Well done Group 1!

Number bonds within 20

Today, group 3 looked at their number bonds within 20. The children were shown how to work systematically when trying to identify the number bonds within 20. Starting and 0+____ the children worked their way through the number bonds, stopping when they start to repeat themselves. In pairs, the children were able to explore the number bonds and calculate how many there were for each number within 20.

Group 1 Maths this week.

This week we have been learning about double, halves, even, odd numbers as well as identifying more and less than. What a lot of learning!

We started by recognising doubles and using paint to add ‘double’ spots onto ladybirds. ‘I know double 3 equals 6. There are 6 spots on the Ladybird’ IJ

‘Like half as it means you can share with a friend.’ ARL

We then started looking at even and odd numbers. Noticing any patterns, how we can represent them and what are the similarities and differences. Try and look at these together at home as next week we shall be moving on to counting in 2’s.

How can we show this using shoes? If I eat all of Jamal’s apples, does he still have more than Tina?

Ask your child what they have noticed? Can they use words such as – more, greater, less, equals, because, odd, even? Remember, you can always send photos or messages of extra home learning into your Key Worker, would always enjoy seeing work outside of school.

Exploring number patterns

Group 2 have been exploring numbers and how they change when we are increasing and decreasing. During this week we have explored writing numbers in words, ordering numbers and comparing number using “greater than” and “less than”

Today we looked at counting forwards and backwards on a 100 square in jumps of 3. We started at different numbers and wrote down the numbers we landed on.

We then had a go at counting forwards and backwards from any given number on the 100 square in 3’s and 10’s.

To finish the lesson we explored what odd and even numbers are. We wrote our own number cards and sorted them into odd and even. We then used our previous knowledge of tens and ones to create 2 digit numbers and sort them into odd and even. We understood that the ones digit determined whether the number was odd or even.

Well done everyone, we had lots of fun today! Keep practising writing those numbers in words and sorting numbers into odd and even 🙂
