Eastgate group 1 have been learning to count in 5s and 2s. They are getting very good at them! We played a game where we had to pass five to the next person as we high fived them. Why not practise counting in 5s and 2s at home?

Today, Group 3 explored sharing and grouping strategies and used them to solve division word problems. The children then made links between multiplication and division and used the inverse calculation to check their answers.

Today Year 4 focused on adding fractions greater than one. We built upon our previous knowledge of adding fractions within one and applied this knowledge to our new learning. Using a range of pictorial representation year 4 learnt effective ways of adding fractions before having a go independently. Well done year 4!

Today in Maths, Year 5 were comparing and ordering decimals up to three decimal places. We used our knowledge of place value to help us identify smaller and larger decimals. We played a game in partners where we used a dice to create a decimal, we then used our star words to compare the size of these decimals.

Today we have been grouping numbers into tens and ones. The children have been so clever and represented their numbers using cubes, tens frames and bead strings! Have a look at these pictures to find out more!
This week Year 6 have been consolidating their understanding of area and perimeter. The children went outside and measured the perimeter of different rectangles on the playground. The children used a variety of strategies to help them calculate perimeter. l+w x2, (lx2) + (wx2) and l+l + w+w.

Today in Maths, Year 5 were looking at improper fractions. We know that an improper fraction is where a fraction has a greater numerator than denominator. We then learnt how to convert them into mixed numbers using different strategies. The children worked really well in their talk partners to then convert fractions from improper to mixed number, as well as represent them pictorially.

Thank you for your cooperation,

This week year 6 started their measure unit in Maths.
The children used different units of measure and different equipment to measure objects of their choice.
Mrs Bevan also asked us whether our arm span was the same length as our height?
The children investigated this and discovered that for most people their arm span length was either exactly the same or very close to their height!
