Times tables

Today during our maths meeting Group 4 focused on our times tables. This term we have had a focus on both the 6 and 9 times tables.

Firstly, we sang our timetables songs to warm us up before answering quick fire questions on white boards. The children did excellent and our knowledge has improved lots over the past month.

Christmas Fair

As part of our enterprise learning from Spring term last year, the children have continued this by creating items to sell at our Christmas fair. We had a budget of £40 and we made snowmen on a stick which we sold for 50p each. We made over 200 snowmen and decided to make some vegan to cater for all customers. One of our classmates also made snowmen hamma bead decorations to sell on the day. We had a great evening and made a total of £30 profit which is amazing! Well done Westgate Water!

Group 2 Maths

Today, we have been testing our array learning. We have rehearsed counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, and applied that to help us solve a problem. We were given lots of cards, which had got muddled up in Mrs Pandyas’ bag! She wanted us to arrange the cards, so that the cards showing the same information were grouped together.

The children used their knowledge of arrays, repeated addition and multiplication sentences to solve the problem.

Christmas Extravaganza Enterprise!

Next week we have our Christmas Extravaganza! You are welcome to join us in the hall to explore the stalls, cakes, tea, santa’s grotto and much more!

In preparation for this, the children have taken part in an enterprise. We were set a budget to buy resources and then make something to be sold at the fayre. The children have worked so hard creating the products and signs to tell people what we have for sale.

Next week we will look at the money we have made and use subtraction to find out our profit.

Please come and support us in raising the most money through our sales! We look forward to seeing you at such an exciting event 🙂

Maths Group 2

This week we have been practising counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We have explored arrays that display the multiplications and writing equations to explain them. Some children have been using cubes to display the information, creating equal groups of 2, 5 or 10, then counting in the correct number to know how many altogether.

We have used the sentences:
I can see ___ groups, with equal totals of ___. The whole is ___.

Can you explain this array using these sentences?

Learning 1 – Maths

This week we have been consolidating all of our Maths learning, focusing on securing our arithmetic skills and knowledge.

This week we have explored word problems, identifying which operation would be required and how we can then record the equation onto our whiteboards.

We are proudly sharing our work, after self evaluating our understanding – what super work!

Multiplication Facts

So far this week Group 4 have been building on their known and derived multiplication facts to help them with multiplying mentally. The children have found different ways to represent their learning and timetables facts which has helped to cement their learning. We are going to build on this learning to learn how to multiply 3 digit and 1 digit numbers together.
